ZESCO Limited and the Zambia National Service, ZNS, have agreed to ensure uninterrupted operations of ZNS milling plants across the country, amid the effected 8 hour load-shading schedule.
The agreement followed emergency meeting between ZESCO Managing Director, Victor Mapani and the ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, held on Monday.
During the meeting, both parties made commitments to implementing strategies that will ensure the stability of staple food production, especially mealie meal.
Lt. Gen. Solochi underscored the importance of closer collaboration between ZNS and ZESCO to collectively assist the Government in averting possible constrained availability of the staple food and other critical food crops.
And ZESCO Managing Director, Victor Mapani, said he understands the importance of food security in maintaining national stability and peace.
Mr. Mapani said the continued production of mealie meal will prevent panic buying and the potential shortage of Zambia’s staple food.
This is contained in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today by ZESCO Limited Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi.
