The Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has condemned the production and circulation of obscene material involving a female social media personality, describing the act as illegal and contrary to the country’s moral values.
NGOCC Executive Director, Anne Mbewe-Anamela, has further expressed concern with the obscene content that she says, poses risks to young people who may not fully understand the long-term consequences of their actions.
Ms. Anamela said NGOCC is alarmed by the ease with which such material can be created and disseminated through digital platforms.
“NGOCC calls on parents and guardians to play a more active role in guiding children and young people towards responsible behaviour both online and offline,” said Ms. Anemela in a statemenet issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She said that the families remain the primary foundation for instilling discipline, values and responsible digital citizenship.
Ms. Anemela has also urged men and young women to uphold high moral standards in all aspects of their conduct, warning that the pursuit of fame and social media popularity should never come at the expense of one’s dignity, reputation or future.
She has further appealed to the Zambia Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that anyone found to have violated the law is held accountable.
