ZAMBIANS URGED NOT TO TRIVIALISE CORRUPTION FIGHT

Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa has urged Zambians not to trivialize the fight against corruption, because law enforcement agencies have placed emphasis on recovering lost assets, as opposed to jailing the offenders.

Mr. Mweetwa who is also Chief Government Spokesperson said this during a press briefing in Lusaka today.

He said that law enforcement agencies are operating within the law, that allows for both conviction and the recovery of lost state assets.

“Jailing an offender for corruption is not adequate to compensate for the lost assets meant for citizens,” said Mr. Mweetwa.

He said that Zambians must however support the new dawn government in the fight against corruption, by reporting suspected corrupt activities to the Anti Corruption commission ACC.
