ZACA HAPPY WITH GOVERNMENT’S MOVE TO HALT POWER EXPORTS

Zambia Consumers Association ZACA Executive Director Juba Sakala has commended government for its decision to halt the exports of power to neighboring countries.

Yesterday, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said cabinet had resolved that ZESCO recalls about 100 megawatts of power, out of the 195 megawatts being exported to neighboring countries.

Mr. Sakala has told RCV News in Lusaka today that the decision will put the economy back on track.

“The past four to five months, industries have been running on 50% and consumers have lost their property due to load shedding in their houses”, said Mr. Sakala.

Mr. Sakala has expressed hope that the recalled power will be provided to productive parts of the economy.

And Mr. Sakala has called on government to consider empowering small-scale enterprises for them to grow.
