VEEP CALLS FOR STRONGER OPPOSITION AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has encouraged opposition political parties to work hard in preparation for the 2026 General Election and to provide effective checks and balances to the ruling UPND government.

Mrs. Nalumango has also urged the opposition to prove themselves strong and challenge the ruling party in the upcoming general elections.

She emphasized the importance of having a strong opposition in any multiparty democracy, as it creates healthy competition for the ruling party.

“Prove yourselves as a strong opposition and remember the UPND is not an enemy but adversaries, competing for the same positions,” said Mrs. Nalumango during the Vice President’s Question time in the National Assembly today.

She also called on the opposition to address internal divisions within their parties and to refrain from politicizing national matters.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nalumango has urged Members of Parliament to support women in all sectors as the country prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow.

She highlighted the strength of women and emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces where they can work responsibly and contribute to the nation’s development.
