The University of Zambia (UNZA) says it will pay the new student levy for 2025 for the over 27,000 students.
UNZA’s commitment to pay the revised student levy was made known yesterday, Wednesday 4th December 2024 by the Vice Chancellor of the University Mr. Mundia Muya during a meeting, following the successful conclusion of the annual institution audits.
Speaking during the meeting, Higher Education Authority Director General, Kazhila Chinselu, stated that the payment of the student levy was being specifically mentioned to UNZA because it is Zambia’s flagship Higher Education Institute, and it should lead by example.
And UNZA Corporate Communications Officer, Birbal Musaba said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today that UNZA had paid the student levy for 2024 for all its students and will pay the revised levy for 2025.
He said the revised student Levy was introduced through the Higher Education General Regulations, 2024 that were issued to operationalise the Higher Education amendment Act, 2024 and took effect on 29th August 2024.
