CHARITY LUMPA CALLS FOR HIGHER STANDARDS IN WASTE MANAGEMENT

Resolute Party aspiring Lusaka Central Member of Parliament, Charity Lumpa, has called for stricter standards in waste collection.

Ms. Lumpa says companies contracted to manage garbage must have the right equipment to deliver efficient services.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today Ms. Lumpa said authorities should establish why some waste collectors fail to collect garbage on schedule and dispose it off at designated dumping sites adding that poor service delivery is contributing to sanitation challenges.

She has urged government and local authorities to strengthen civic education on responsible waste disposal as many residents continue to dump litter in open drainage systems, worsening flooding and environmental pollution.

“There is need for more facilities for waste disposal as one can go a whole street without finding a dust bin” said Ms. Lumpa.

She further said public awareness campaigns are needed to encourage proper waste management practices stating that behavioural change must go hand in hand with improved garbage collection services.
