TREASURY MOVES TO RECOVER OVER K1B UN-REMITTED NON-TAX REVENUE

Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane, says Government will publish details of all organisations and individuals who are owing in levies, fees, penalties and fines, to recover the over K1B of un-remitted non-tax revenue.

According to a report submitted by the Accountant General to the Secretary to the Treasury, by June, 2024, the outstanding non-tax revenue which should have been paid to Ministries and Agencies of the Government by various stakeholders exceeded K1B.

Dr. Musokotwane therefore says government anticipates positive results from the recovery exercise, saying the outstanding revenue is needed to sustain the drought emergency response which was developed by the Government.

“The outstanding remittances relate to Government services offered in the energy, tourism, labour, water development and sanitation, transport and Logistics, and home affairs and internal security, sectors,” said Dr. Musokotwane in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said the failure to remit non-tax revenue by some organisations and individuals is inconsistent with the Government’s macroeconomic objective for 2024 aimed at increasing domestic revenue to at least 22 percent of GDP.

“According to the report, the Government is owed K1, 078, 158, 586.39 in unpaid non-tax revenue, as at 30th June, 2024,” said Dr. Musokotwane.
