SP CALLS FOR ACC TO NAME OFFICIALS IN CORRUPTION PROBE

Opposition Socialist Party Deputy General Secretary, Antonio Mwanza, has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to name all Ministers and government officials under corruption investigations.

Mr. Mwanza says the Party finds it strange that the Commission through its Deputy Director General, Monica Mwansa, announced that it is currently investigating some cabinet ministers and other government officials for alleged corrupt practices, but it will not reveal the names.

In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwanza said the behavior by the ACC to shield what he termed as criminals in government is totally unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

“This same ACC is quick to publicly announce the names of ordinary Zambians who are merely suspected and not even under formal investigations but when it comes to the ruling elite, the ACC finds it prudent to hide the names of the suspected criminals”, said Mr. Mwanza.

“By making investigations public, the ACC will demonstrate its commitment to justice and fairness for all and not only for those who are poor or without money”, said Mr. Mwanza.

Publicly naming ministers can deter others from engaging in corrupt practices, knowing that they could also be exposed and face consequences.

He has since called on the Commission to actively investigate and name the corrupt officials if is to boost confidence and prove government’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
