“Regional integration and policy harmonization are crucial for increased cotton production,” according to the Eastern and Southern Cotton Organization (EASCO).
EASCO Board Chairperson, Diriana Lwanda, has emphasizes the need for regional linkages among partner organizations to facilitate learning and opportunities for cotton producers.
Speaking on the sidelines of the EASCO Female Extension Officers Training in Lusaka, Ms. Lwanda stressed that regional experience sharing and policy collaboration are essential for boosting the cotton sector.
“To promote gender equality and empowerment, EASCO is launching a regional platform supporting female extension officers in the cotton industry through mentorship and skills exchange,” said Ms. Lwanda.
She said this initiative targets Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Ms. Lwanda explained that the program aims to enhance women’s participation in cotton production, economic resilience, and capacity to produce quality cotton sustainably amidst climate change.
She said the training, supported by We Effect, brought together 15 female extension officers from four countries to develop skills in data management, agroforestry, sustainable cotton production, and climate-smart technology.
