The Zambia Police Service has refuted allegations made by former President Edgar Lungu regarding supposed plans to ambush him at night.
“At no point did we have any intention of ambushing Mr. Lungu or any other citizen”, Police Inspector General of Graphel Musamba said in a statement to RCV News today.
Mr. Musamba said the allegations are unfounded and false.
He said as Former Head of State, Mr. Lungu is entitled to protection, and police monitoring of his movements is strictly for his own safety.
Mr. Musamba said the procedure will be done with the utmost respect for his privacy and dignity.
He has appealed to the public to understand the role of the police in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
