PF FACTION LEADER REJECTS POWER HANDOVER TO ECL

Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) faction Leader, Robert Chabinga, has rejected the leadership transition within the party, insisting that he remains the legitimate party leader.

This comes after fellow PF faction leader, Miles Sampa, yesterday announced that he had handed back the party leadership to former President Edgar Lungu and endorsed him as the PF’s presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.

However, during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Chabinga dismissed the transition, stating that the presidency cannot be handed over to someone who is not eligible to contest in the upcoming elections.

“The transfer of power is illegal because the courts have not yet ruled on the internal leadership disputes within the party,” said Mr. Chabinga.

He further emphasized that any transition of power should only take place after his name is officially removed from the register as party office bearer.
