OIL REFINERS ANTICIPATE A DECLINE IN SOYA BEANS PRODUCE

Crushers and Edible Oil Refiners Association has anticipated a decline in the produce of soya beans in 2024/2025 marketing season.

Association Director, Aubrey Chibumba says the anticipated the decline drop is largely attributed to commercial farmers shifting their focus from soya beans to maize in pursuit of higher profits.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Chibumba said that failure to attain 100,000 tonnes of soya beans this will be challenging for the agriculture sector calling on commercial farmers to meet the country’s production needs.

“Despite this challenge, there is optimism about the contributions of small-scale farmers,” said Mr. Chibumba.

He said that this could be a defining moment for small-scale farmers to step up and bridge the gap to ensure a steady supply of Soya Beans.
