Opposition United for a Better Zambia Leader, Hector Sondo, has criticized Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) President, Nevers Mumba, for joining an alliance with the ruling United Party for National Development UPND.
Yesterday, the MMD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with the UNPD as an alliance partner.
But Mr. Sondo says the alliance partnership comes at a time when the MMD is facing internal wrangles and questions on Dr. Mumba’s stay at the presidency.
“It is clear that Dr. Mumba is positioning himself as a running mate to president Hichilema in 2026, but it should not come at the expense of the MMD,” said Mr. Sondo.
He is of the view that the former vice president should have joined the UPND alliance in his own capacity and leave the MMD to continue offering checks and balances to the seating government.
