MALAWIAN BUSINESSMAN GETS FOUR YEARS FOR ILLEGAL ENTRY

A 22-year-old Malawian Businessman, identified as Fredrick Misomali Junior, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labor, for unlawful entry and engaging in business without a permit.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka said the suspect was convicted by the Chipata Magistrate Court on 14th May 2024 without the option of a fine.

Mr. Nshinka said the suspect was apprehended on 3rd May 2024 in the Chipata Motel area during a routine clean-up operation after he failed to produce documentation legalizing his stay in Zambia.

“The suspect was found selling shoes at the time of the operation and investigations later revealed that he was a second offender who entered the country illegally on 2nd May 2024 and conducted business without having an immigration permit,” said Mr. Nshinka in an a statement.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nshinka said the Katima Mulilo Immigration Office has convicted a 36-year-old Zambian of Sesheke District’s Makanda Village, identified as Mulusiye Sibungo, for harboring an illegal immigrant.

Mr. Nshinka said the suspect, who apprehended on 13th April 2024, was sentenced by the Sesheke Magistrate Court to pay a fine of K80,000 or in default to serve nine months simple imprisonment.
