The Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has installed more than 30,000 new water meters under its ongoing 64,000-Meter Installation Programme, marking significant progress in efforts to improve billing accuracy, reduce water losses and strengthen water accountability across Lusaka Province.
Company Public Relations Manager Ruth Mukuwa, says the 64,000-Meter Installation Programme, which commenced in 2025, is part of the utility’s broader initiative to modernize its water supply infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery.
Ms. Mukuwa said installation works are currently underway in Chilanga, while teams are also replacing faulty and non-functional meters in Kanyama, Chawama and John Howard townships.
“The new meters will provide customers with fair and accurate billing based on actual water consumption, enabling them to better manage their water use and detect leaks early,” said Ms. Mukuwa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mukuwa said the initiative will also help reduce billing disputes, improve customer confidence and enhance service delivery through more reliable meter readings and efficient water management.
She has since appealed to customers to support the programme by repairing visible leaks on their premises, ensuring meter locations are accessible to authorized installation teams and cooperating with personnel carrying out the works.
She has further reminded customers that all installed water meters remain the property of LWSC and should be protected from theft, vandalism, damage, tampering or any unauthorized interference.
