LCC SEIZES ILLEGAL MERCHANDISE, DETAINS 50 RIOTUS VENDORS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) in collaboration with State Police has apprehended 50 individuals for riotous behavior directed at Council police officers in the Central Business District (CBD).

The incident occurred on Saturday, 23rd March 2024, along Katondo Street during the enforcement of the prohibition of street vending, as mandated by Statutory Instrument No. 12 of 2018.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba says the operation by Council Police officers was met with violent resistance, with vendors throwing stones at unarmed officers.

“The suspects, whose various merchandise have been confiscated, are currently detained and will soon be presented before a competent court”, said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He has therefore warned  all those in illegal vending that the Council will not hesitate to employ all legal means at its disposal to penalize such actions and deter future offenses.
