Lusaka City Council (LCC) police in collaboration with state police has arrested 13 vendors during an operation conducted in the Central Business District (CBD), in its efforts to clear traders operating in undesignated areas.
During the exercise, various merchandise from street vendors and shop owners were confiscated.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba says the joint operation targeted shop owners who have the tendency of displaying goods incorrectly, and at least 8 shop owners had their goods seized.
“The arrested vendors, who were selling various food items on the streets, are currently in custody”, Said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She said that the shop owners, whose goods were confiscated, will appear in the courts of law, while others will pay penalties to the Council.
