KANYAMA’S NOTORIOUS GANG LEADER “VIPER” NABBED

Police in Kanyama have apprehended a 24-year-old Joseph Kabanshi, also known as “Viper,”  believed to be the ringleader of a dangerous gang that has terrorized communities over the past year.

Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, says Joseph Kabanshi was apprehended on October 24, 2024, around 17:00 hours, following a successful operation.

“He had been on the police wanted list for multiple serious crimes, including murder, aggravated robbery, and other violent criminal activities in the area,” said Mr. Chilabi in  a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Mr. Chilabi said brief Facts of the matter are that between July 2023 and October 2024, Joseph Kabanshi, acting with others unknown, allegedly assembled in large numbers while armed with various offensive weapons, such as machetes.

He  said the group is accused of attacking innocent people, damaging property—including motor vehicles—and stealing valuable electronic items like mobile phones and cash, as well as looting shops.

“The gang has reportedly been active in areas including Kanyama West, Mutanda Bantu, Mbasela, Kanono, Garden House, Makeni Villa, Yellow Shop, Shalom area, and many other surrounding areas in Lusaka,” said Mr. Chilabi.

He said the suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting formal charges, and will appear in court soon.
