Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament, Twaambo Mutinta, says over K1 Million Kwacha from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been allocated to the procuring of irrigation equipment to mitigate drought.
Mr. Mutinta stated that following the Presidential directive and the declaration of drought as a national disaster, the people of Itezhi Tezhi have decided to embark on large-scale irrigation along the Kafue River.
He explained that the initiative aims to mitigate the drought situation, which has adversely affected food security.
The lawmaker mentioned that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Chiefs, and relevant stakeholders, the CDF committee reallocated 50% of the loan allocation for 2024 towards procuring the equipment.
“The initiative will support community livelihood programs and provide animals with access to clean water,” said Mr. Mutinta in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Mutinta expressed confidence that the irrigation equipment will overcome food insecurity amidst climate change challenges.
