The opposition Economic Freedom Fighters EFF has challenged the Ministry of Finance to inform the nation why it approved the purchase of Zambeef’s Chiawa Farm at $13.5M.
The EFF joins other opposition political parties in criticizing government for the purchase of the said farm which they allege is exorbitant.
EFF President, Kasonde Mwenda, has argued that the $13.5M farm is 75% undeveloped and should have costed cheaper.
“The Chiawa Farm, has been acquired from Zambeef PLC, a private entity in which President Hakainde Hichilema holds a vested interest” said Mr. Mwenda in statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Mwenda said that the procurement of the said farm did not follow the due process as mandated by the Zambian procurement laws.
He has therefore called on government to explain how Zambeef was single-sourced and chosen over other potential sellers, raising serious questions about transparency and fairness.
