INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY URGED TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ZAMBIA

Norwegian and Danish Church Aid Country Representative Jonathan Lea Howarth has called for more financial international support on addressing the effects of drought in Zambia.

The drought that has affected 84 districts across the country has been declared a national disaster by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking during the stakeholders meeting on navigating the possible strategies to the cost of living crisis in the face of increased poverty in Lusaka today, Mr. Howarth said that the current drought is expected to affect 2 million people in Zambia.

“The international community should refocus its attention from the Russia – Ukraine war and channel resources to pressing issues such as hunger in Zambia”, said Mr. Howarth.

He underscored the need for financial support in targeted areas that have experienced huge crop failure during the drought.
