INFORMAL SECTOR CHOCKED BY BLACKOUTS

Alliance for Zambian Informal Economy Associations Secretary General, Lameck Kashiwa, says the current 8hrs loadshedding has chocked the informal sector.

Mr. Kashiwa says players in the informal sector are struggling to make ends meet, attributing this to decreased business activities due to loadshedding.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Kashiwa said that the informal sector largely depends on electricity.

“Salons, barbershops, welders, carpenters, and restaurants among others are also failing to meet tax obligations due to loadshedding,” said Mr. Kashiwa.

He has therefore urged government to be proactive and find alternative energy sources  before the sector collapses.
