ICT SECTOR CONTRIBUTED 2.6% TO GDP IN 2023 THIRD QUARTER-MUTATI

Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati , says the Information and Communication Technologies, ICT sector, contributed 2.6 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country, in the third quarter of 2023.

Mr. Mutati says the ICT sector grew by 5.1 percent which is similar to the growth rate recorded in the second quarter of the same year.

He said this follows increased investment done by government in ICT, as well as the enhanced productivity and efficiency across the private sector and other industries.

Mr. Mutati said this last night on national broadcaster, when he addressed the nation on the eve of the 2024 Commemoration of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, which falls today, under the theme “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development.”

“This day reminds us of the critical role that Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) play in driving economic growth and development. It is also a celebration of the continuous evolution that have reshaped the way we communicate, learn, work and live,” said Mr. Mutati.

He  acknowledged the growth of the ICT sector in the past year, especially towards digital transformation.
