Police in Lusaka say a man identified as Penis Tembo, aged 37, of Lusaka’s Misisi Compound, is suspected to have killed his 35-year-old wife, Tionenji Tembo before committing suicide.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, says the incident was reported to the police yesterday at 16:00 hours by Patricia Tembo, aged 63, of Misisi Compound, who is the mother of the deceased.
Mr. Hamoonga said the couple was last seen by neighbors on the evening of February 1st , 2025 at their home, saying that concern arose when neighbors noticed their absence and checked the house on February 3rd , 2025, and they found the door locked from inside with a metal bar and received no response after knocking.
“The neighbors informed the landlady, who is the mother of the deceased woman, and she granted permission to break the door and upon gaining entry, the neighbors discovered both individuals dead and promptly reported the matter to the police,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Hamoonga said that the body of, Tionenji Tembo was found in the sitting room, lying on the cushions and covered with a blanket, adding that the body showed visible signs of injury, including a swollen right cheek, a swollen right eye, blood discharge from the nostrils, and bruises on the head, left wrist, and both legs.
Mr. Hamoonga said that the body of, Penis Tembo, was found intact, lying face down on the bed adding that blood was oozing from his mouth, and white substance was observed coming from his nostrils.
He said that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary for postmortem examination and subsequent burial, saying that Police have opened an inquiry file, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
