GREEN PARTY REJECTS PROPOSAL TO EXTEND PRESIDENTIAL TERM

Opposition Green Party President, Peter Sinkamba, says proposed constitutional amendments to increase the tenure of office for the President from 5 to 7 years, should not be entertained by Zambians.

Yesterday, Governance and Elections expert, Stanley Mhango, backed constitutional amendments to increase the tenure of office for Presidents from 5 to 7 years.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Sinkamba says the proposed amendments are not new, saying that they have been rejected by the Zambia people in the past.

“The increase in the tenure of office is only peddled by a government that failed to deliver for its people”, said Mr. Sinkamba.

He has however challenged the UPND administration to state their stance on the proposed amendments.
