GOVT URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN FUEL PROCUREMENT

Independent Nkana Member of Parliament, Binwell Mpundu, has urged government to rethink its decision to leave the procurement of fuel to the private sector.

Mr. Mpundu said this in Lusaka today, when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “Energy crisis”.

Mr. Mpundu said that the private sector are incurring major costs in the transportation of fuel by road, that has an impact on the final price at the pump.

“Despite the private sector delivering fuel on time, the costs they incur to transport the fuel is having a negative effect at the pump,” said Mr. Mpundu.

He said that government should have a share in the procurement of fuel that will be transported by TAZAMA pipeline for cheaper prices on the market.

Mr. Mpundu argued that the fuel sector is important to the economy, saying that government should have a hand in the procurement process.
