Opposition Leadership Movement President, Richard Silumbe, has called on the UPND government to halt the ongoing constitutional amendment process, describing it as rushed and unfair.
Dr. Silumbe noted that while constitutional reforms is a matter Zambians have long expressed interest in, it should not be rushed.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Silumbe criticized the timing of the process, arguing that it is irresponsible for government to push through constitutional changes just a year before a general election.
“The government should have started this process back in 2022, rather than now imposing a short timeframe for such an important undertaking,” said Dr. Silumbe.
Dr. Silumbe also cautioned government against ignoring public sentiments on constitutional matters, warning that doing so risks eroding citizens’ trust in democratic governance.
