GOV’T STEPS UP CHOLERA CONTROLS, CONFIRMS NEW MPOX CASE

Government, through the Ministry of Health has directed all trading places to provide handwashing and proper sanitation facilities as part of efforts to prevent the spread of cholera beyond Nakonde.

Acting Minister of Health, Douglas Syakalima, emphasized the importance of cleaning public areas and maintaining hygienic practices in public and commercial spaces, including public transport.

In an update on the cholera and mpox outbreaks in the country, Dr. Syakalima stressed the need for collective action toward achieving a cholera-free Zambia.

He also mentioned that the Ministry has set up cholera treatment centers and facilities nationwide to ensure isolation and effective treatment as required.

Meanwhile, Dr. Syakalima said the Ministry has confirmed that the husband of the 34-year-old female Mpox case reported last week has tested positive for the disease.

He said that both individuals are stable and are currently under home isolation, with ongoing monitoring by health professionals.
