Agriculture Expert, Gilbert Banda, has urged government to intensify sensitization campaigns on fall army worms that negatively affect crops.
Mr. Banda’s appeal comes days after the Ministry of Agriculture announced the procurement of 55,000 liters of low-risk pesticides to be distributed across all ten provinces as part of government’s effort to curtail the spread of the worms.
But Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Banda emphasized the importance of raising awareness among farmers to ensure prompt reporting and response to infestations.
“This is not the first time the nation is dealing with Fall Armyworms and farmers need to be equipped with knowledge to identify and report the pests early,” said Mr. Banda.
He however commended governmnet for procuring pesticides despite the measure coming at the time when fields have already been infested with the worms.
