GOV’T ISSUES FRESH WARNINGS AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING

Mines and Minerals Development Minister, Paul Kabuswe, has issued a stern warning against illegal mining activities, saying government will be going around the country to  arrest the illegal miners.

Mr. Kabuswe says illegal mining deprives people of their lives since they operate in unsafe environment and that it robs people of the economic status since illegal miners usually sale to unscrupulous buyers.

“Government treasury is not getting what belongs to it because people are buying in the back door, buying cheaply and running away,” said Mr. Kabuswe when he launched the National Three Million Metric Tonnes Copper Production Strategy by 203,  and the National Critical Minerals Strategy, 2024-2028.

And Mr. Kabuswe said Zambia is ready to achieve 3million metric tonnes of copper production by 2031 because practical steps have already been taken.

He said government will then go high on embracing new technologies, and urged investors to share new technologies  with Zambia.
