GOV’T HAPPY WITH LOCAL PRODUCTION OF SCHOOL DESKS

Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, says he is happy with the increased local production of desks needed in schools to cater for the growing pupil population due to the government’s free education policy.

Mr. Syakalima said the exercise is being done by various institutions which include the Correction facilities, Trade Schools and individual schools as well as those being financed by the Constituency Development Funds, CDF.

“The production of desks is a continuous exercise because the target keeps changing due to the number of learners that keep increasing every term,” said Mr. Syakalima at a Press Briefing in Lusaka today.

Mr. Syakalima said the number of Children in Schools keeps increasing due to the introduction of free education.

He said in the first quarter of 2024 his Ministry saw the production of 30,689 desks by Trade Schools alone.
