The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has commended cabinet for approving the National Social Protection Policy.
Cabinet at its 20th Meeting held on 28th October 2024, approved the Social Protection Policy to be tabled before the National Assembly.
CSPR Executive Director, Isabel Mukelabai, says the policy reflects government’s commitment to providing comprehensive, equitable, and transparent social protection for all citizens.
“The National Social Protection Policy will be instrumental in achieving the poverty reduction goals outlined in Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan, which aims to reduce poverty rates to below 40% by 2026,” said Ms. Mukelabai in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She has therefore urged government to ensure that key measures to expand the financing architecture for social protection is prioritized.
Ms. Mukelabai said that CSPR is of the view that the new policy will create leverage for more effective coordination amongst key actors, saying that the full implementation of the policy must be supported at all levels of governance.
