GOV’T CALLS FOR ENHANCED MINERAL RESOURCES SECURITY

The Ministry of Defence has called on African countries to strengthen security and protect their mineral resources in light of the growing global interest in critical minerals.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Maambo Haamaundu, said the increasing demand for critical minerals presents both economic opportunities and potential instability, depending on how their extraction and management are handled.

Speaking in Lusaka this morning during a courtesy call by a delegation from the Tanzania National Defence College, Mr. Haamaundu, emphasized the need for African countries to establish stable and secure environments to ensure responsible mining practices.

Mr. Haamaundu noted the strategic importance of cooperation between Zambia and Tanzania in safeguarding their shared mineral wealth.

“The two countries are endowed with vast mineral resources, and must work together to become a shining example of how critical minerals can be harnessed to drive national development,” said Mr. Hamaundu in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, by the Ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Paul Shalala.

He further highlighted that critical minerals are essential for economic growth, renewable energy, and technological advancement.
