The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has disclosed that it approved 2, 362 community projects under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for implementation at a cost of over K2 billion.
The projects focused on education, health, water and sanitation, roads and procurement of equipment demonstrating the need to use CDF towards the enhanced provision of critical services and infrastructure.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Technical Services, Nicholas Phiri, said the CDF Act No. 1 of 2024 which was enacted as a repeal and replacement of the CDF Act No. 11 of 2018 has made CDF Committees more inclusive by including representation from the youths, women and persons with disabilities among others.
“From the total budget of over K4 billion for the CDF 2024, 32, 526 pupils benefitted from Secondary School Bursaries while 48, 815 youths benefitted from the Youth Skills Development Bursaries”, said Mr. Phiri.
Meanwhile, Mr. Phiri said government has started the construction of 94 chief’s palaces pout of the 111 procured and completion of the 16 palaces whose construction started in 2015.
