FRA STARTS SELLING MAIZE TO DROUGHT AFFECTED HOUSEHOLDS

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has started selling maize to households in drought hit districts.

This moves follows the declaration of the current drought as a national disaster, and the need for the agency to enhance Community Sales to vulnerable households in the affected areas.

FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe says

the maize will be sold from FRA satellite depot locations in 84 drought hit districts.

“It should be noted that each household is entitled to buy only  one 50 kilogramme bag per month and affected districts such as Shang’ombo, Gwembe, Kabwe, Kalomo, Zambezi, Ikelengi, and Kazungula are among the areas that will benefit from the program” Said Mr. Chipandwe in a statement issued to RCV news in Lusaka today.

He said that the agency will sell a 50 kilogramme bag of maize under this programme at K330.00.
