ECZ SUSPENDS 8 EXAMINATION CENTERS FOR MALPRACTICE

The Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) has indefinitely suspended General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination center status for eight examination centers following reported examination malpractices in the 2024 examinations.

Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, says the council also nullified results in one affected subject for twelve (12) examination centres, involving nine hundred and twelve candidates.

Mr. Syakalima said this in Lusaka today when he released the 2024 Junior Secondary (Grade 9) External and General Certificate Of Education Examination Results.

He said 7 examination centers had results nullified in all subjects, involving four thousand five hundred eleven (4,511) candidates;

He said government will not tolerate any form of examination malpractices and that anyone found wanting will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, Mr. Syakalima said, the GCE pass rate for this year indicated an increase of 6.48% compared to 2024.

He said 24.72% of the 3, 649 of the 14,764 candidates who sat for five subjects or more, obtained the General Certificate of Education, while 5.12% of them failed all the subjects they sat for.

And Mr. Syakalima said 78.23% of those who sat for the Junior Secondary External Examination passed in at least one subject, while 24,645 representing 21.77, failed the examination.

“With regard to the 28,310 that sat for six or more subjects, 7,999 (28.94%) obtained certificates, 15,440 (54.54%) obtained statements, that is, passed at least one but less than six subjects, while 4, 871 (17.21%) failed in all six or more subjects they sat,” said Mr. Syakalima.
