DOOMSAYERS CALLING UPND CORRUPT-IMENDA

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) says there is an orchestrated campaign by some opposition elements, to try and paint the government with a corruption tag.

Party Secretary General, Batuke Imenda,  says to the contrary, President Hakainde Hichilema has been consistent in his commitment to fighting corruption.

Mr. Imenda said the President has demonstrated his fight against corruption by pursuing those involved in graft which has deprived or compromised the delivery of social services to the majority Zambia.

“As a party, we remain steadfast and committed to support President Hakainde Hichilema’s zero tolerance to corruption,” said Mr. Imenda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He however said the fight against corruption, as indicated by the Head of State last week, is complex as those involved have a lot of money at their disposal to frustrate successful prosecutions.

Mr. Imenda also said his party is aware that some politicians are trying to use the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency saga to  scandalize the Government.

He said government has however taken a decisive decisions by suspending the Director General and launching an investigation against all those involved.

“We urge Zambians not to be used by doomsayers who have vested interests because they know the law is slowly but surely catching up with them for their past and current involvement in corruption,” said Mr. Imenda
