The Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) has commended Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Acting Director General, Monica Chansa’s recent decision to join the prosecution team in the high-profile case involving former Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kennedy Malama and seven others.
CTPD says the decision highlights the challenges Zambia faces due to corruption and underscores the need for a relentless and comprehensive approach to addressing such cases.
“The Acting Director General’s involvement not only demonstrates a commitment to the cause on corruption, but it also goes a long way in promoting transparency and accountability from all those granted the sacred privilege to serve the Zambian people,” said CTPD Executive Director Isaac Mwaipopo in a statement issued to RCV News today.
Mr. Mwaipopo said CTPD views this involvement as a positive sign of leadership and encourages other Senior law enforcement officials to consider adopting a similar leadership approach in their respective roles.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the fight against corruption remains non- selective, stating the need to address both past and present cases with the same level of Vigor.
Mr. Mwaipopo has further called for a comprehensive strategy to effectively fight corruption.
“Beyond prosecuting cases, the government should also consider focusing some of its efforts towards strengthening the capacity of law enforcement agencies and implementing transparency measures on the management of forfeited properties and resources,” said Mr. Mwaipopo.
