CSO CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY IN DEBT MANAGEMENT

Civil Society Organizations Debt Alliance Chairperson Alex Muyebe says there is need for the country to find solutions that promote fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability in debt management.

Fr. Muyebe says there is also need to ensure that public resources contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress towards achieving the target of the 8th National Development Plan and Sustainable Development Goals.

He said this during the National Conference on Debt and Development being held in Lusaka under the theme: “Debt, Development and Gender Justice; Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Development in Zambia.”

“Gender justice is crucial for inclusive development and the focus reinforces the commitment to creating opportunities for everyone,” said Fr. Muyebe.

He has further said the meeting is a platform for dialogue, collaboration and action, with aim to yield positive results in issues to do with debt in the country.

And speaking at the same event, Africa FORUM and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) Policy Analyst and Advocacy Officer-Debt portfolio, Shem Otieno, said he expects the meeting to raise awareness in the campaign against resource mismanagement and begin to advocate for sustainable inclusive development and respect for economic social and cultural rights.
