State House has refuted claims by the Tonse Alliance and other stakeholders that the constitutional amendments proposed by President Hakainde Hichilema aim to remove the 50%+1 clause, abolish the presidential term limit, or extend the current term limit.
Chief Communications Specialist at State House, Clayson Hamasaka, described these allegations as false, stating that they are based on speculation and misinformation.
He emphasized that neither the President nor anyone in government intends to temper with these constitutional provisions.
“There is no intention whatsoever by the President or anybody to alter these clauses,” said Mr. Hamasaka.
He urged Zambians to reject such misinformation and focus on verified facts rather than baseless political propaganda.
“Zambians are encouraged to wait for the actual text from the Ministry of Justice on what is being proposed, rather than debating something that has not even been published in the government gazette,” said Mr. Hamasaka.
