CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT SERIOUS, SEEK MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES- LUNGU

A Mental Health Officer in the Ministry of Health, Gabriel Lungu, says the issue of climate change is real and has a serious impact on the mental health of the general citizenry.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News today, Mr. Lungu said as the country struggles to cope with drought, which has mostly affected the agricultural sector, there is need for those directly affected to seek mental health counselling on how well they can adjust to the situation.

Mr. Lungu said if not well handled, the situation may lead to the rise in teen pregnancies especially in rural areas and Gender Based Violence, GBV among other vices that may arise from the impact.

“The country’s food security has been threatened by the impact of climate change and as people try to survive, it is imperative that they seek mental health related services from professional mental health service providers”, said Mr. Lungu.

Mr. Lungu has since encouraged the public to treat mental health issues with the urgency it deserves by seeking help from relevant service providers
