An Agricultural Specialist, Gilbert Banda has commended government for increasing the Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility (SAFF) from K70, 000 to K500, 000.
On Monday, Agriculture Minister, Reuben Mtolo, announced the development during the 2024 Farmer’s Day celebrations, stating that the increase will boost crop production and improve the livelihoods of farmers nationwide.
Mr. Banda told RCV News in an interview today that the development is a positive move for the country, as the agriculture sector has significant potential to contribute to the Zambian economy.
“This is a step in the right direction that will benefit not only farmers but also enhance many lives”, said Mr. Banda.
Mr. Banda has also urged prospective beneficiaries to repay their loans to ensure that other farmers can benefit from the facility.
He has emphasized the need for a shift in mindset regarding loan repayment to advance the sector and position the country as a regional breadbasket.
Meanwhile, Mr. Banda has encouraged farmers across the country to adopt technology and seek innovative solutions to address the ongoing drought challenges.
