The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has warned importers and traders of used textile products (Salaula) against importation and sale of used textile products containing used undergarments.
ZCSA Manager – Communications and Public Relations, Brian Hatyoka has warned of stern action against importers and traders illegally importing and selling prohibited products on the Zambian market.
Mr. Hatyoka said the agency will continue seizing and destroying used undergarments to protect the public from health risks associated with these products, as provided for under Section 16 (4) (b) of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017.
He was speaking during a ZCSA Roadshow hosted at Kashumba Market in Mongu Town of Western Province yesterday, to sensitize marketeers and traders on the dangers of used undergarments and unregulated potable spirits, among other products covered by compulsory standards.
“Consumers should only buy new undergarments which are available on the market, to safeguard their health,” said Mr. Hatyoka in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hatyoka expressed concern that some entities are illegally producing and supplying potable spirits and other beverages on the market.
Mr. Hatyoka noted that some potable spirits, especially those supplied illegally, contain alcohol content which is above the safe threshold for human consumption, thereby endangering the health of consumers.
