The Lusaka Regional Immigration Office has apprehended 30 males, aged between 18 and 37, following a successful routine inspection conducted on 23rd March 2025.
Department of Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, says the detained individuals include 22 Burundians, 3 Congolese, 1 Rwandese, 1 Ugandan, and 3 suspected illegal immigrants who claimed to be Zambians.
Mr. Nshinka further revealed that one of the individuals claiming to be Zambian was apprehended for threatening officers with a machete during the operation.
“All the apprehended individuals were found to be undocumented and operating grocery shops without the necessary immigration permits and the suspected illegal immigrants are currently detained, awaiting prosecution and further immigration formalities,” said Mr. Nshinka in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He added that the Lusaka operation brings the total number of individuals apprehended across Zambia for various immigration offenses between 21st and 23rd March 2025 to 99.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nshinka disclosed that the department removed 149 illegal immigrants from the country following inspections conducted in Kabwe, Lusaka, and Kitwe.
He stated that these three operations bring the total number of illegal immigrants removed from Zambia between 21st and 23rd March 2025 to 196.
