Outgoing World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa, has expressed her gratitude for the strong partnership between the World Bank and Zambia, highlighting the bank’s role in supporting the country’s development.
Speaking at State House today, Dr. Kwakwa said she is delighted that, over the past seven years, the World Bank has significantly increased its support to Zambia, particularly during the severe drought when the country was in urgent need of assistance.
However, Dr. Kwakwa emphasized that Zambia’s successes should not be attributed solely to the World Bank but to the country’s commitment to key areas such as gender development.
She assured that the collaboration between the World Bank and Zambia would continue even after her departure, as it is a collective effort beyond just one individual.
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema commended the World Bank for its outstanding support, stating that without its assistance, managing the drought crisis would have been far more challenging.
He also recalled the bank’s crucial advice to Zambia on diversifying its energy sources to enhance stability, a move that has since proven vital for the country’s economic resilience.
