Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) has launched the Post Graduate Diploma In Taxation Qualification in its commitment to ensuring that the qualifications remain relevant, practical, and globally competitive.
ZICA President Yande Mwenye says this marks an important step in the ongoing efforts to provide specialized and high-quality training to tax professionals which will contribute to the development of skilled professionals who will drive compliance, improve tax administration, and support the country’s economic growth.
“This qualification will open doors for tax professionals in the corporate world, public sector, and international taxation practice,” said Ms. Mwenya during the launch in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mwenya said the institution conducted extensive consultations with key stakeholders in developing the programme, including the Zambia Revenue Authority, Audit Firms, ZICA Taxation Committee Members, Lecturers and Examiners from higher learning institutions offering taxation and accounting programmes among others.
She highlighted that the consultations provided insights on the relevance of the qualification in the industry and identify critical skills gaps in tax practice such as lack of sufficient knowledge of Zambian tax laws and regulations to formulate legal tax opinions and resolve tax disputes and limited understanding of both local and international transfer pricing regulations.
Ms. Mwenya said the first examination session for this programme will be held in December 2026, with subsequent sessions scheduled for June and December each year.
And speaking at the same event, ZRA Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, said the ongoing collaboration between ZICA and ZRA is crucial in tackling tax-related challenges, such as enhancing voluntary tax compliance, refining tax policy frameworks, and ensuring that taxation aligns with Zambia’s economic development goals.
Mr. Banda stressed that the post graduate diploma in taxation is more than just an educational program, but also a catalyst for change.
He has since urged ZICA to continue championing forward-thinking initiatives that fortify the country’s financial and economic sectors.
