The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has expressed concern that the church has not been consulted on the proposed constitutional amendments.
EFZ Executive Director, Andrew Mwenda, stated that in 2022, the church under the OASIS Forum approached government regarding constitutional amendments saying that their request was turned down due to financial constraints.
Speaking on Christian Voice’s Chatback program in Lusaka today, where he discussed national matters, Bishop Mwenda questioned how government has suddenly found the resources to proceed with constitutional amendments.
“The plans to amend the constitution should be withdrawn and postponed until after the elections,” said Bishop Mwenda.
He noted that while constitutional reforms are necessary, the timing is problematic as the country is approaching a general election amid a high cost of living.
