The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has emphasized the critical importance of maintaining a strong social license to operate with local communities, particularly in mining areas such as Maamba.
Ministry Permanent Secretary, Hapenga Kabeta, said this during a courtesy call by Lieutenant Colonel Cyrus Minwala (Rtd.), Chief Executive Officer of Maamba Energy Limited, at his office in Lusaka today.
In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka, Dr. Kabeta emphasized that fostering trust, collaboration, and mutual benefit with communities is essential for the success and sustainability of mining operations across Zambia.
“Mining companies must prioritize the well-being of local communities to ensure long-term harmony and shared prosperity” said Dr. Kabeta.
Speaking during the same meeting , Lt. Col. Minwala assured the Permanent Secretary that Maamba Energy remains committed to partnering with the community through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He further affirmed the company’s dedication to ensuring that its operations bring tangible benefits to the people of Maamba, aligning with the government’s vision of sustainable and inclusive development.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Fred Banda, Director of Mines Development at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development.
