Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Sunday Chanda, has called on stakeholders, including Transparency International Zambia (TIZ), to focus on strengthening governance rather than advocating for policies that could hinder progress and disadvantage local communities.
Mr. Chanda criticized TIZ’s recent call for the government to reduce Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations due to alleged underperformance and governance weaknesses, arguing that such a move would be a setback for community development.
“CDF is a lifeline for rural and peri-urban communities, addressing longstanding infrastructure deficits, supporting entrepreneurship, and enhancing local service delivery,” Mr. Chanda said in a statement issued to RCV News.
He emphasized that instead of reducing CDF allocations, efforts should be directed towards improving governance mechanisms, strengthening local capacity, and ensuring efficient utilization of funds.
“This includes enhancing local government capacity through training and technical support, improving transparency and accountability measures to curb inefficiencies, and ensuring timely disbursement and absorption of funds for maximum impact,” said Mr. Chanda.
